Legal protection of new plant varieties is carried out by issuing patents for these plants and entering this variety into the Register of Plant Varieties permitted for use in Armenia. Applications are filed to the Center for Agricultural Research and Certification (CARC) State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO) of the MInistry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia. 

For examination purposes the applicant must submit a corresponding number of plants, which should be planted in Armenia and after they grow, the authorized body will conduct an examination and make a decision on the grant of a patent and enter this variety into the Register of Plant Varieties permitted for use in Armenia.

Planting, growing, caring for seedlings is carried out on a paid basis to private gardeners. Since the state body does not have an opportunity to fulfill the actions connected with planting and caring of the plants, this work is instructed to the specialized gardeners. However we do not deal with planting matters and the client will have to arrange the transportation of the plants and find a corresponding gardener to negotiate about the place and costs for planting the plants.  

For the registration of the plant variety the below data and materials are necessary:

• The completed application form with the applicant’s full name, address, VAT number, State Registration number
• Name and address of the breeder
• Description of the Variety according to UPOV
• Technical questionnaire
• The pictures of the Variety
• The Power of Attorney form the applicant
• If the plant variety is registered in the country of origin or any other country, the extract from the State register certifying the registration.
• Document that the variety is GMO free. This may be a brief statement issued by the applicant.

During the formal  examination additional documents or information may be required.
